What is “Sheen of Paint” or “Paint Sheen”: Is that like “Master of the Universe”??
When paint dries, the level of gloss the paint has when dry is referred to as “sheen” Your decision on choice of paint sheen for the area of your home will affect how it appears and how durable it is in terms of cleaning and maintaining.
Here’s a guide on where to use different sheens and how they hold up according to the area/room.
Flat: How is sounds: NO gloss whatsoever. While I love it for dramatic effect it makes it is difficult to remove stains. Only use in areas you don’t frequent as often.
Eggshell: A step up on gloss than a flat paint, works well for medium traffic areas
Satin: minimal gloss but more reflective than eggshell, provides a durable finish that is easier to clean than flat or eggshell, good for most spaces
Semigloss: Light glossy appearance, very durable and cleans easily. Great paint for basements and kitchen areas.
Gloss: reflective, highlights detail such as trim and moldings, perfect for doors and cabinets.
